Excellence Advantage Inspirations
Quarterly Summary

A new year. And a quarterly recap of Excellence Advantage Inspirations.

Over two years ago, I first began to write and share these inspirations. 55 editions later, I keep at it for the same reason: You!

To cross-fertilize successes from one leader to another. To pose questions that cause you to pause and consider… sometimes to spur your next action.

Each article is written with one or more of you in mind. As if chatting in your office. Talking about a recent or upcoming situation, challenge, or opportunity.

I welcome the positive feedback after a particular article that struck a note for you. And, of course, I look forward to sharing your success, your obstacles conquered, your excellence advantage here in a future edition.

Let me know what you might like to hear more about in the year ahead. I am glad to write a piece with you in mind!

P.S. My colleague, Dell Anderson, and I have been invited to be the inaugural speakers at the first ever Telehealth T-Time on January 18, 2024. We will be sharing the success story of a rural four-county region that is using a novel, coordinated approach to bring unlikely partners together around a common goal. Join us virtually if you’d like (details here).

What if…?
When many groups meet, they often resort to the all-too-common, discussion-style team meeting. In my experience, there are much better methods, depending on the objectives you are seeking to achieve. How do you decide what is best to achieve your objective?
When bringing a group together, the intentional, skillful and judicious use of team-based techniques can aid problem-solving, decision-making, and planning.

What Did You Find?
How do you determine when Done is Done?
Plan. Do. Check. Act: Simple to understand, but more complex to fully embed across an organization.
Immensely impactful once it becomes the “way we do everything!!”

How Do They Contribute?
Does your Board of Directors contribute to or detract from an environment of high performance?
Does your Board have clarity about its roles? …in governing? In the strategic process? In organizational performance?

How Mature Are We?
How mature are your organizational processes? Are you getting the results you want? And need?
Do you know which processes are most impacting your results?
Organizational Maturity:
Approach + Deployment + Learning + Integration

Measure = Manage
Measures are your hardwired communications system.
They continually broadcast what is important. They shine a light on where improvement is most needed.
Done well, measures are the catalyst for strategy, improvement, organizational alignment, and continual progress.
But too few leaders have internalized that Measure = Manage and Manage = Measure.

The Why Behind E.A.I.
Two years ago I began to pen these Excellence Advantage Inspirations (EAI) for you. My why? …Your why!
What does excellence mean to you and your organization?
What is the advantage you seek to create through pursuing excellence in earnest?
What actions have you been inspired to take?
